Learning by developing

...because practice teaches you

Today I am going to speak about an android smartphone, which is not a tablet or phablet due to its size, but with very powerful specs, the Lenovo A820, cheap, powerful and … beautiful? ;)

For the anxious readers:

Quick specifications:

– Lenovo A820 Black
– 4.5″ QHD, 960 x 540, IPS-LCD/ Capacitive Touch Screen
– 1.2GHz MTK6589 quad-core
– Support network:2G:GSM/GPRS/EDGE:900/1800/1900MHz 3G:WCDMA: 2100MHz
– Single camera, 8.0MP BSI back camera
– 1GB RAM + 4GB ROM
– Android 4.1.2

First I would like to talk about the screen. With 4.5″ QHD, 960 x 540, IPS-LCD/ Capacitive Touch Screen, I can assure the quality of the screen is really good. Probably not as good as one of the highest ends in the market, but really good, otherwise. I used to have a Samsung Galaxy S3, and now a Motorola Moto G, and I can assure that the quality of the graphics, even if it is lower, it is quite good. I tried to play some games in this device, and it responded quite well, which I think is a good signal :).

The sensibility is a bit lower than on those devices, on the other hand, being necessary to place a thin screen protector, but works perfectly fine. I would recommend to buy a screen protector with a bit of quality, since I realized that this same problem happened with my Motorola Moto G and the Galaxy S3, a bad screen protector makes you feel that the screen is not sensitive at all.

When talking about the speed of the CPU “1.2GHz MTK6589 quad-core” and its RAM memory: I would say that it is more than enough for most of the users, unless you are planning to play the latest 3D gamesĀ  or you require the best of the screen resolutions.

About the ROM size, 4GB I would say that it is not the best quality of this phone. But there are several ways to solve this issue(which, on the other hand, would be enough for most of the users), by using a Micro SD(which supports even 32GB) and installing the applications on it. I would recommend to visit the XDA developers forum and check for the latest custom ROMs and the possibilities that this phone can offer.

So, if you are looking for good quality, good performance and you don’t care that it is not so beautiful as other devices, the Lenovo A820 is definitively your device. You can find it around Internet, and straight from China for around 90-100 euros, which is a great deal.

Hope it was useful!

David.
